Kolkata: After receiving flak for making derogatory comments against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) poll candidate Roopa Ganguly, Trinamool Congress leader Rezzak Mollah on Thursday apologised to the actor-turned politician.
“I am really sorry for making personal remarks against Roopa Ganguly,” Rezzak said.
Mollah stoked controversy when he cast aspersions on actress-turned-BJP leader Roopa Ganguly's character and expressed doubts on her artistic abilities.
Speaking to Bengali news channel ABP Ananda, Mollah who was expelled from Left in 2014, said, “I know the length of the cigarettes she (Roopa) smokes or with whom she lives with.”
Stooping to new low, Mollah made derogatory remarks against the TMC candidate saying “She really is Draupadi”.
Mollah joined Trinamool Congress this February. Just few days back, he had made controversial remarks on TMC MP Moon Moon Sen.
Mollah is contesting the West Bengal Assembly Election 2016 from Bhangar Assembly constituency in South 24 Parganas district.
Roopa Ganguly is contesting on a BJP ticket from Howrah North against Trinamool candidate, cricketer Laxmi Ratan Shukla.
The Election Commission on Wednesday issued show-cause notice to Trinamool Congress candidate Abdur Rezzak Mollah over his "objectionable" remarks against the BJP leader.
