UP polls: Six arrested, liquor and ammunition seized

In a bid to ensure free and fair panchayat polls, six persons were arrested as well as large quantity of liquor and ammunition recovered in UP.

Muzaffarnagar: In a bid to ensure free and fair Panchayat polls, six persons, including a gram pradhan, have been arrested as well as large quantity of liquor and ammunition recovered in separate incidents here.

A notorious criminal Pushpender, who is contesting the gram pradhan elections, along with his brother Dharmender, were arrested yesterday for intimidating voters at Bhorakhurd village, SHO Jitender Kumar said.

Large quantity of liquor as well as a pistol and 10 cartridges were recovered from their possession, he said.

Meanwhile the Chief Judicial Magistrate Sunder Lal has sent the accused brothers for 14 days judicial custody.

In another case, four people including a gram pradhan Kulbir, were arrested in apprehension of breach of peace at Kanupur village in the district yesterday, police said.

The district authorities have also expelled 11 people from the district for one month under Goonda Act, Additional District Magistrate Manoj Kumar told reporters.
