Lucknow: After a police sub-inspector was suspended for stamping on his typewriter with his boots, the photos of which went viral on social media, the 65-year-old typist Kishan Kumar on Monday allegedly got a call from an anonymous person saying he "had not done a good thing".

"The call was received by Kishan Kumar this afternoon and, prima facie, it appeared to have been made through Internet calling," said SHO Hazratganj, Vijay Mal Yadav.

The caller told Kumar "he had not done a good thing" but hung up when the typist wanted to know who was calling, Yadav said, adding that it was probing the matter and the necessary security will be provided to Kumar.

Kumar had occupied a spot on the pavement outside General Post Office (GPO) for 35 years, offering his services as a typist.

On the pretext of a "security movement", in-charge of the Secretariat Police outpost, Sub-Inspector Pradeep Kumar, had crushed his typewriter under his boots.

As the pictures of the incident went viral on social media, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav asked senior officers to suspend the errant cop and provide a new typewriter to Kumar.

An inquiry, to be headed by the Circle Officer, Alambagh, was also ordered.

The typist, meanwhile, has asked the chief minister to spare the errant sub-inspector.

"I am of his father's age. The SI has committed a mistake, but the CM should also forgive him as he has realised his mistake," he had said.

Besides the chief minister, who announced Rs 1 lakh for Kumar, a large numer of people have extended a helping hand to the elderly typist following the incident.
