Lucknow: On Sunday, the Uttar Pradesh police chief Javeed Ahmed was incapacitated for a few seconds and admitted to 'seeing stars in broad daylight' after he volunteered to play target to a Taser shot on himself.
The Indian unit of an American company that supplies Tasers had held the demo to ascertain the effectiveness of the weapon that is used against non-complaint aggressive suspects resisting arrests.
In a video tweeted by the IPS Association, the top cop is seen being held by his colleagues while the gun, being tested for its efficiency, is administered.
Soon after the test-fire shot, Ahmed shrieked a little as the person administering it instructed his colleagues to make him lie on the ground immediately.
The officials asked him to relax and helped him gets back on his feet after a few seconds.
An electroshock weapon, a Taser gun fires dart-like electrodes at the target. These electrodes induce temporary immobility by incapacitating neuromuscular functions, that is the reflexes, of the body. The gun is helpful in nabbing criminals.
"Taare dikhne lage (I saw stars)", Ahmed told his colleague, who burst into a laughter.
Ahmed said he volunteered to take the demo on him as it was about leading from the front. "Everyone present in the room was human as I was, so there was no point in asking somebody else to do it," the TOI quoted him as saying.
