Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday pitched for a debate on the observance of Bakr-Eid (the feast of sacrifice), being celebrated on Tuesday, in an "eco-friendly" way.

On the Bakr-Eid or Eid al-Adha, Muslims across the world sacrifice animals as part of their holy tradition.

Paying heed to the BJP's advice, the Awadh unit of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-backed organisation Muslim Rashtriya Manch has decided to not sacrifice a goat today.

It will instead celebrate the festival by cutting a cake baked in the shape of a goat, reported The Indian Express. The cake weighing 5 kgs will be cut at the Manch’s Awadh prant office in Lucknow.

The volunteers associated with Manch will not be cooking biryani at their homes, but prepare sewaiyan and dahi vada.

Many activists have been campaigning against the slaughter of animals with a section of them arguing that not killing animals is good for the environment.
