Imran Masood, who once threatened to chop Narendra Modi into pieces, given key post in UP Congress

New Delhi: Imran Masood, who threatened to 'chop' Narendra Modi 'into pieces', has been appointed as Uttar Pradesh Congress committee vice president.

During the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Masood had said that he will "chop" Narendra Modi, then the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, into pieces and was subsequently arrested and jailed.

Hitting hard at the Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Sambit Patra tweeted: "So Congress rewards the "Boti-Boti" man of Uttar Pradesh Imran Masood with the post of UPPC Vice President!Reflects the mind set of Congress."

The 2017 UP elections are a litmus test for the Congress vice president as the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party is certain to go all guns blazing to win the state, which sends maximum MPs to the Lok Sabha.

Reports have been doing rounds that Congress president Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Gandhi would extensively campaign for the 2017 UP elections.

Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit is expected to be announced as Congress' chief ministerial candidate for the crucial polls.
