Lucknow: Former BJP leader Dayashankar Singh, who was arrested after being expelled from the party for making derogatory remarks against BSP chief Mayawati, was on Sunday released from Mau district jail after being granted bail.

"My family is undergoing trauma. I will give fitting reply at the right time," Dayashankar told media after he walked out of the jail today morning.

Dayashankar was granted bail on Saturday. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) dubbed the court order as 'not in keeping with law' and said it will be challenged in Allahabad High Court.

The former BJP MLA was arrested on July 29 from Bihar's Buxar town after remaining absconding for about 10 days. Later, he was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Mau, which sent him to 14-day judicial custody.

The BSP had lodged an FIR against Singh for comparing its party supremo Mayawati to a 'prostitute.' His comments led to a furore in the Parliament, forcing the BJP to remove him as the party's UP Vice President.
