BJP to project Rajnath Singh as party's face in Uttar Pradesh polls: Report

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party is likely to project Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh as the party's main face for 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.

According to India Today, a discussion on BJP's chief ministerial candidate is, however, yet to happen.

Rajnath Singh previously served as the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and as a Cabinet Minister in the Vajpayee government.

The former BJP president is playing a crucial role in hectic lobbying for the 11 Rajya Sabha seats from Uttar Pradesh.

However, as the contender for the post of chief minister of UP, Rajnath Singh is trailing Varun Gandhi, as per an ETV poll on most popular BJP leader in April.

Varun Gandhi was leading the pack with 51 percent, followed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh with 28%, former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh at 10%, Yogi Adityanath at 8%.

This month, Hindi daily Amar Ujala published a survey showing Varun Gandhi in front with 36.45% popularity ratings, ahead of Rajnath Singh with 29.64% and Yogi Adityanath at 22.22%.
