New Delhi: Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti on Thursday came to the defense of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati over Daya Shankar Singh's slur comparing her to a prostitute.
Bharti was speaking to ANI when she said, "When Samajwadi Party goons attacked BSP and Mayawati Ji in that guest house 20 years back, BJP had helped her even then."
"We are the same BJP, we have atoned for Daya Shankar’s slur and have taken action against him. I know how she must feel as a woman” Bharti said.
However, the union minister made it clear that BJP won't stand by her if the BSP supremo is planning to use Daya Shankar's rant against her in Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.
"If Mayawati Ji is attacked again, we'll stand with her. But if she wants to use this in polls then she should forget about it," she concluded by saying.
In a statement he made on July 20, Daya Shankar Singh compared Mayawati to a prostitute for which, an FIR was lodged against him under section 153A,504,509 IPC and 310 under the SC/ST act.
