Hyderabad: In view of a searing heatwave currently sweeping across Telangana, the authorities here have ordered the closure of schools for summer holidays much earlier.

ANI reported on Friday that summer vacations will start from April 17 instead of April 24 in Telangana schools in view of the heat wave in the state.

The move amid reports of heat wave claiming at least 66 lives across the state .

The Met department has predicted that there would not be much respite from heat wave in the coming days in Telangana.

As per the Telangana government, two people died in Nalgonda, five in Khammam, 28 in Mahabubnagar, 5 in Karimnagar, 11 in Medak, 4 in Adilabad, 7 in Nizamabad and four in Warangal.

A newspaper quoting quoted a government official as saying that the actual number of deaths might be much more.

Most of the victims are daily wage earners and agricultural labourers who have no other option than to toil under the scorching sun.

Last year, over 500 people had died due to sunstroke in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
