Students of Chennai's Hindustan University go on rampage over fee hike

Chennai: Tens of students of Hindustan College in Chennai, Monday, went on a rampage inside the campus in protest against the management's decision to hike fee.

The protesting students broke window panes and threw stones at the college building – the very institution they joined to gain knowledge.

The students had, last month, staged a protest over the issue. Besides fee hike issue, the students are also alleged that the university is collecting fines on unfair grounds.

A TOI reported quoted a fourth semester student as saying, “If we are unable to clear the internal papers, we should be allowed to write it again. It charges 8000 per paper and now we heard that it is increasing the amount to 13,000. If we don't pay the amount, we cannot even write out exams in the upcoming semester."

The students also alleged that the university was demanding, at short notice, fees for the next academic year in March.
