Power generation affected in southern district of TN

Power generation in the three thermal power units here was affected, leading to decline in the power supply to the southern districts of tamil Nadu in the last two days, officials said here Friday.

Tuticorin: Power generation in the three thermal power units here was affected, leading to decline in the power supply to the southern districts of tamil Nadu in the last two days, officials said here Friday.

The third and fifth units of the power station, with 210 MW capacity each, had been taken up for maintenance while the second unit had been shut due to problems in the transformer today, officials said.

Meanwhile, officials of the state owned Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited said this was only a temporary phenomenon and it would be resolved in a day or two.

They said the power shut down was being implemented in such a way that the People did not feel the difficulty.

People in Idalakudi in Kayanakumari district blocked the road traffic yesterday as power supply went off. But they dispersed after the supply resumed.

In the southern districts the power cut timing ranged from One hour to two hours.

The members of the Puthur Mosque in Tirunelveli district also held a demonstration to protest against three hour power cut in the morning yesterday.
