New Delhi: Just a few days ahead of the Mars Opposition on May 22, the Hubble Space Telescope delivered this breathtaking photo of Mars, revealing details about the planet as small as 20 to 30 miles across.

The telescope, well known for its picturesque views of nebulae and galaxies, imaged this image on May 12, 2016, when Mars was 50 million miles from Earth.

The bright, frosty polar caps, and clouds above a vivid, rust-colored landscape image of Mars by Hubble indicates the Red Planet as a dynamic seasonal planet.

On Sunday, Mars, Sun and Earth will all align in the sky, an event called 'Mars opposition' and with Earth directly in the middle. During this time, Mars will be at a distance of 47.4 million miles from Earth and will be brightly visible from dusk until dawn. On May 30, Mars will be the closest it has been to Earth in 11 years, at a distance of 46.8 million miles.
