NASA to reveal 'amazing' Pluto discovery later today

Washington: The US space agency NASA is all set to reveal an 'amazing discovery' of Pluto Thursday made by its New Horizons spacecraft, according to a senior planetary scientist.

Dr Alan Stern, a planetary scientist and Principal Investigator on Nasa's New Horizons Pluto mission, revealed the exciting announcement whilst speaking at the University of Alberta in Canada.

“Nasa won’t let me tell you what we’re going to tell you on Thursday. It’s amazing,” he said.

He said this while discussing the latest imagery of Pluto and its moon Charon, sent back from the New Horizons probe.

Last week, NASA released stunning images of Pluto, which show a landscape of mountains, craters and gorges on the surface.

It is said that the latest images captured by the New Horizons probe have shed new light on something scientists have been trying to work out for years.

“2015 will be a year in textbooks forever,” as the year in which mankind discovered so much about its solar system, Stern added.
