Their noble effort calls for a huge round of applause. In order to combat the spiked intoxication and excess of garbage in ocean waters two Australian surfers Pete Ceglinski and Andrew Turton invented an automated floating trash bin.

Known as Seabin, the device can be placed in water, attached to the floating dock and is operated by an onshore water pump. The pump then generates an inward flow of water in the bin.

As the water starts flowing out of the bin back into the ocean the plastics and other debris present in the polluted water gets trapped inside the 'catch bag' made of natural fibers. The device is also embedded with another mechanism which filters the liquid pollutant in the sea water like oil and detergent.

Seabin consists of a cylindrical container lined with the catch bag (store house of the garbage) and a water pump system with an optional oil/water separator. Currently, the device is designed to operate only in calm and controlled waters such as marinas, sea waters, ports, rivers, and lakes as its structure is not susceptible to the storms of the high sea.

Many researchers from across the globe have already highlighted the detrimental effect of floating plastics on marine ecosystems. Due to storms these plastics break down into small pieces and get consumed by the marine animals. This chokes their digestive system causing them to starve and die.

This simple but incredible innovation will provide pollution-free oceans for our coming generations. Both the inventors are planning to recycle the plastics collected as garbage and use them to make even more Seabins.
