Seoul: It's final! Google's artificial intelligence has beaten Lee Sedol, grandmaster of the ancient Chinese game Go, on Tuesday for a fourth time to win the five-game series 4-1 overall.
Developed by Google subsidiary DeepMind, AlphaGo completed the best-of-five series with four wins and one loss against South Korean Lee Sedol.
AlphaGo had already clinched a series victory with its third win on Saturday, in a result that shocked the world, particularly Go fans.
Google's AI program made headlines last year when it became the first machine to beat a human pro player.
“I am disappointed that the matches are over, and also disappointed that I could not end the series on a high note,” Lee was quoted as saying to reporters, while thanking fans for their support and adding that he had wholeheartedly enjoyed the games.
DeepMind founder Demis Hassabis said the match had been the “most exciting and stressful” for his team.
Described as the "match of the century" by local media, the series was closely watched by tens of millions of fans of the ancient board game - mostly in East Asia - as well as AI scientists.
