Marathwada drought: First water train to reach Latur today

Mumbai: In what may be provide succour to the parched Marathwada region of Maharashtra, a 'water train' will reach Latur on Monday.
The 50-wagon train, carrying 2.75 lakh litres of water, is on its way to the city from Miraj in Sangli district, near Kolhapur.
As per a TOI report, the Sangli district administration has laid a 2,700-metre supply line to bring water from the railways' filter house to the railway yard to fill the wagons.
The wagons, which generally transport fuel and oil, were steam-cleaned before they were deemed fit to be filled with water.
Marathwada is reeling under severe drought with dams and rivers drying up leaving citizens with not even enough drinking water.
The villages in the area get water once every 10-12 days.
