Mumbai: A court here on Monday issued production warrant against gangster Chhota Rajan in journalist Jyotirmoy Dey's murder case.

Rajan has been asked by the police to appear in court on January 7, 2016.

On June 11, 2011, Dey was shot dead by four unidentified motorcycle-borne gunmen near his residence in Hiranandani Gardens, Powai.

The police attributed the motive to two articles written by Dey which reportedly showed Rajan in “poor light”.

Earlier, in the same probe, a supplementary chargesheet was filed against journalist Jigna Vora. The police had claimed that Vora instigated Rajan because of her professional rivalry with Dey.

The case faced its first hurdle with the death of the main accused, Vinod Asrani alias Vinod Chembur, in April this year. According to the chargesheet, it was Vinod who helped the shooters identify Dey. But now, with the arrest of Rajan, the police hope to get the accused convicted.
