Ujjain: A BJP MLA and his friend in Ujjain town was duped by a man claiming to be the nephew of BJP chief Amit Shah.

The man fled with Rs 50,000 cash and a cellphone, as per India Today.

A complaint against the man has been filed at the Madhav Nagar police station.

The man, claiming to be one Viraj Shah, said that he was a resident of Ahmedabad and a nephew of the BJP president.

He went to General Railway Police (GRP) station at the Ujjain railway station and filed a complaint. The man reportedly said that his luggage along with cash, valuables and mobile phone were stolen from the train during journey.

He then called the local MLA, Dr Mohan Yadav (representative of Ujjain South constituency) and narrated the same story to him.

On hearing the man's tale, Yadav sent his friend, Naresh Sharma to meet him.

Sharma gave Shah Rs 50,000. Not only this, he also bought the man new mobile phone worth Rs 15,000 and a plane ticket to Ahmedabad, as per the report.

Interestingly, the man visited the Mahakal temple while in Ujjain.

Later, when Sharma found that the phone number he had been given by the man was switched off for two days, he informed the police.

Only then it was revealed that the berth man had mentioned he was travelling on was booked in someone else's name.

"I stay in Dharma ki Nagri ( Ujjain) and keep helping people. When this person asked for help I sent my friend to meet him," Yadav was quoted as saying by the media house.

Yadav added that he was in Bhopal for Assembly's monsoon session at the time and so had sent his friend to help the man.

"We have registered a case of cheating and are investigating the matter," said MS Parmar, Inspector, Madhav Nagar police station, said.
