Congress' Kerala unit seeks probe into 'forged' letter

Chennithala again denied writing any such letter at Friday's meeting.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Congress' Kerala unit on Friday decided to ask its government to conduct a comprehensive probe into a letter which has appeared in the media in the name of state Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala, who has however denied writing any such missive.

Addressing reporters here after a meeting of the state unit's executive, state party chief V.M.Sudheeran said Chennnithala has categorically denied ever writing such a letter.

"We all took him at his word and then concluded that it is for the government to conduct an appropriate probe to find out about this 'letter'," said Sudheeran.

The now controversial letter, published in a section of media, was purportedly written by Chennithala to the Congress high command seeking an "urgent overhaul" in the party after the rout in the civic polls.

Chennithala again denied writing any such letter at Friday's meeting.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, asked to comment, only said: "He (Chennithala) has already said he has not written it" as he drove away.
