Kochi: In one of a barbaric act, some Kerala Congress Youth Front (IM) members killed several stray dogs and paraded the dead bodies in front of the Municipal office at Kottayam.
The act is seen as a warning to government and municipal bodies to take immediate action on dogs threat.
The incident took place on Monday afternoon when the party youth wing hit the street in Kottayam against dogs menace in the city and marched towards the municipal office with carcasses of dogs before putting them in front of local post office building.
The members of the youth wing carried the protest against the state government and Local Self government bodies against their inability to tackle the threat from stray dogs by hanging the dead bodies by their legs on a pole.
One Saji Manjakadambil, who was heading the protest told NDTV, "We have killed these dogs. And it's a warning that this will continue if the central and the state government do not control the stray dog menace."
However, the activist claimed that they killed only dangerous dogs and urged the people to do the same.
The gruesome act is seen as a strong opposition against the stand of Union Minister Maneka Gandhi who had strongly opposed the idea of dogs culling in the state.
In addition, newly-appointed Chief Minister Panirayi Vijayan too had expressed his displeasure through his Facebook page and mentioned that illegal killing of stray dogs in Kerala will not be permitted.
