Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister S Siddaramaiah had to face embarrassment during his visit to drought-hit Badagandi village in Bagalkot district on Monday.

The local administration had sprinkled two tankers of water on a particular stretch through which Siddaramaiah and his convoy were supposed to pass.

The water was sprinkled in Bilagi Cross and Badangadi area where construction work is going on. It was done to avoid dust getting picked up when CM's convoy passed.

However, it was not well received by the people who reacted angrily to such 'insensitivity' and said that it was an insult to them.

When the Karnataka CM was asked to comment on the issue, he ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Karnataka is reeling under "worst" drought in recent times, and the government has already declared 137 taluks as  "drought hit".

The state government has formed four cabinet sub-committees to study drought situation and relief works being undertaken in different parts of the state.

Siddaramaiah had earlier announced that he will embark on a tour from April 15 to assess the situation.
