New Delhi: Lawyer Vikram Chauhan is in the eye of the storm. He is accused of attacks on journalists and JNU students in Delhi's Patiala House court complex. However, Chauhan claims that he became a 'victim' of media trial as he is a 'nationalist' and stood against the people who wanted to break India into pieces.
In an exclusive conversation with Zee News, the lawyer spoke on a number of issues ranging from Afzal Guru event in JNU to Patiala House assault episode, here are the excerpts:-
'I am getting threats for saying Vande Matram, Bharat Mata ki Jai'
Vikram Chauhan says that he has received calls and messages (online) threatening to kill him and harm his family after the Patiala House incident.
"I'm being targeted as I chanted slogans like 'Bharat Mata ki jai' and 'Vande Matram'; unfortunately, nowadays there are some people who organise event on terrorist Afzal Guru and raise slogans like 'Afzal hum sharminda hain, tere kaatil zinda hain'," Vikram Chauhan alleged.
Vikram Chauhan said that he has filed a complaint in Delhi's Tilak Marg police station in connection with threat calls.
'I'm a victim of media trial'
Vikram Chauhan alleges that some news channels are conducting his trial through media.
"Is asking anyone to say Bharat Mata ki jai or Vande Matram a hooliganism?"
"Some media channels are calling me 'gunda' (hooligan); if they want to take action against me, they must move court, how can they call me goon?" asks Vikram Chauhan saying that he respects judiciary.
"They can easily call me goon but they can't see people who insult the entire judiciary by calling Afzal Guru's hanging a judicial killing," Chauhan alleged slamming Umar Khalid.
"Some channels showed a Facebook picture of mine with Rajnath Singh; but they didn't show picture in which I'm with ex-Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit because they wanted to target me and BJP," Chauhan alleged.
"Two FIRs have already been filed against me," says Chauhan.
Patiala House brawl: '100-150 JNU students attacked me first'
According to Vikram Chauhan, what happened in Patiala House court was unfortunate and saddening as JNU students attacked him first.
"When lawyers asked some JNU students to vacate the court room, they asked us to show our ID cards, this resulted in a heated argument," Chauhan alleged.
"They (at least 100 JNU students and Kanhaiya supporters) attacked the lawyers first," Chauhan claimed.
'Rahul had time to visit JNU but not Malda'
"Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi easily got the time to visit JNU 'to do politics' but he never tried to visit Malda because of obvious reasons," says Chauhan.
'Thanks to BJP MP Maheish Girri for FIR'
Paying thanks to Maheish Girri for filing FIR against alleged anti-national activities in JNU, Chauhan says it was very timely action by the BJP as it 'averted' major anti-national activities on JNU campus.
