New Delhi: Hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's surprise move to fly to Pakistan and meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in Lahore, External Affiars Sushma Swaraj on Friday described the PM as a true 'Statesman'.

While hailing PM Modi's move” Swaraj tweeted: “That's like a statesman. Padosi se aise hi rishte hone chahiyen.”

In a major surprise, the Prime Minister will be flying to Lahore this afternoon, his first touchdown in Pakistan, where he will meet Sharif.

The announcement came from Modi himself in a tweet as he prepared to wind up his brief visit to Afghanistan.

Earlier today, PM Modi extended his wishes to his Pakistani counterpart on his 65th birthday.

"I wish the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr Nawaz Sharif on his birthday and pray that he remains in wonderful health," Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet.

The relations between India and Pakistan have witnessed some positive developments after chill for several months. The two countries recently decided to launch a comprehensive dialogue after Modi and Sharif met in Paris.
