Kolkata: Cash amounting to over Rs.4.8 crore has been seized so far by the income tax department in poll-bound West Bengal, an Election Commission official said on Wednesday.

"The progressive total cash seizure by the income tax department is Rs.4,86,23,750," said Election Commission official Amitjyoti Bhattacharya.

As for expenditure surveillance in districts, cash seized by flying squad so far is Rs.91,75,719.

"Cash seized by static surveillance is Rs.1,46,92,390," he said.

For the second phase of polls in 56 assembly constituencies, a total of 404 nominations have been received.

As for the two reports sought by the poll watchdog on Tuesday from the West Bengal home secretary on a specific complaint from BJP leader Rahul Sinha, Bhattacharya said one of the reports has been sent to the Central Election Commission.

Sinha's complaint was on police having been used to carry out a sting operation on him.
