Uttarakhand political crisis: Know 'real' reason behind the turmoil

Dehradun: The row over political crisis in Uttarakhand fails to die down! It's even becoming more complicated day-by-day.

While Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi has held Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP responsible for the crisis, Arun Jaitley has refuted the Congress vice-president's charge and revealed the 'real' reason behind the political turmoil in the hilly state.

What's the real reason?

According to Arun Jaitley, the political crisis in Uttarakhand is Congress' creation. Apparently, it all happened because of Harish Rawat vs Vijay Bahuguna war. 

"In Uttarakhand, there is deep division within the Congress party. If one person is made chief minister of Uttarakhand, the other revolts within the Congress," Arun Jaitley said.

Arun Jaitley was referring to the rivalry between incumbent CM Harish Rawat and his predecessor Vijay Bahuguna.

Vijay Bahuguna triggered the political crisis?

Reportedly, Vijay Bahuguna is the person who triggered the rebel crisis. According to BJP's National Secretary Shrikant Sharma, Congress MLAs in the hilly state had long been discontented and it was due to this that the party had to remove one chief minister, Vijay Bahuguna, earlier and was now faced with rebellion against another chief minister - Harish Rawat.

Even on Friday, rebel Congress MLAs seen raising anti-government slogans along with BJP in the House were mostly those owing allegiance to former Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna including Harak Singh Rawat, Amrita Rawat, Kunwar Pranav Singh Champion, Shaila Rani Rawat, Pradip Batra and Subodh Uniyal, a confirmed Bahuguna loyalist.

Rebel Congress MLAs led by Rawat's bete noire Bahuguna have been expressing their resentment against the state goverment for some time.

Congress a 'sinking ship'

Hitting out at Congress over the Uttarakhand crisis, BJP's Shrikant Sharma said its leaders were quitting the party which had become a "sinking ship" due to a "serious leadership crisis".

He alleged that Congress had been shrinking since Sonia Gandhi took over its leadership and had been losing one state election after another following its loss in the Lok Sabha polls.

What's the crisis all about?

Congress government in Uttarkhand led by Harish Rawat plunged into a crisis three days back with nine party MLAs turning rebels and opposition BJP approaching the Governor staking claim to form the government.

Governor Krishna Kant Paul has asked Rawat to prove his majority on the floor of the assembly by March 28.

The Governor's directive came even as BJP claimed majority with the support of nine rebel Congress MLAs in the 70-member House.
