Taj Mahal minaret’s vertex suffers damage during repair work?

Agra: The repairing work at one of the glorious wonders of the world, Taj Mahal, has reportedly caused damage to the vertex of its south western minaret.

As per reports, while the repair work on the historical structure was underway, the vertex of one of the four minarets broke into two pieces.

“Beautification work was on for Taj Mahal minaret when all of a sudden its pinnacle broke into two pieces,” State Chief, Smarak Suraksha Samiti was quoted as saying by ANI.

“This never happened before, this happeend due to ASI's neglect,” he added.

Rejecting such claims, Superintending archaeologist Bhuvan Vikram of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) told IANS that the pinnacle did not fall but was taken out because of its weak condition.

Chemical cleaning of the white marble Taj Mahal has been going on for the past few months.

The covers and scaffoldings around the minarets have marred the beautiful view of the 17th century monument, visited by thousands each day.
