New Delhi: The Upper House of Parliament against witnessed a 'Subramanian Swamy versus Congress' battle on Thursday.
As soon as the newly-nominated BJP MP rose in the Rajya Sabha to speak, Congress members started shouting at the top of their voice.
Swamy then remarked, as per reports, “You only know the Italian Constitution.”
Congress leaders then objected to Swamy making a reference to the Italian Constitution.
The remarks were later expunged by the Rajya Sabha deputy chairman.
“You are unnecessarily provoking others. Don’t do this. Sit down,” PJ Kurien told Swamy.
The Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress MP Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “This man (Subramanian Swamy) doesn't understand the difference between words used in streets and ones used in Parliament.”
On Wednesday, Swamy – on his first day in the Upper House – had caused an uproar by naming Congress president Sonia Gandhi while speaking on the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam issue.
Parliament witnessed repeated adjournments yesterday following Swamy's remarks.
