SC dismisses plea seeking uniform syllabus for schools

The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which sought uniform syllabus for schools across the country.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) which sought uniform syllabus for schools across the country.

Rejecting the plea, the apex court said that there was no merit in the petition.

The PIL was filed in January this year by Delhi BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay which sought Supreme Court`s direction to the Centre to provide uniform education having common syllabus and curriculum to all children between 6 to 14 years of age in spirit of the constitutional principles of equality and right to education.

Upadhyay had contended that the prevailing education was inconsistent with the declaration `to constitute India into Socialist Secular Democratic Republic`.
