Azam Khan holds 'mobile phones' responsible for rapes

New Delhi: In yet another crude remark over rape incidents, senior Samajwadi Party leader on Friday said that rape incidents occur due to mobile phones.

Speaking to ANI, Azam blamed the accessibility to mobile phones in both urban and rural areas for rise in rape incidents.

“Two and half-year-old girls are getting raped, why? It's because of mobile phones. Even in villages people can download things. The content in these mobile phones is accessible to little kids. There are films made where little kids are used. It is these things that are accessible on mobile phones which are ruining the youth and kids who have not even come of age,” Khan was quoted as saying by ANI.

“What is being done about this? What punishment is being given for this. Rape incidents are spoiling our society ,” he further added.

Khan's remarks came after a 2.5-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Delhi's Nangloi area last week.

Reacting to his remarks, former J&K CM Omar Abdullah took to Twitter and said, "Of course because rape and depravity didn't exist before the arrival of smart phones."
