New Delhi: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, Monday, joined party MPS to protest against the alleged 'dog remark' by Union Minister VK Singh.
The protest was held in front of Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Parliament lawns. Besides Rahul a host of other top leaders like Mallikarjuna Kharge and Ghulam Nabi Azad were seen shouting slogans against the Modi government and VK Singh.
The protesters demanded that Singh should be sacked for his alleged anti-Dalit statement.
“Someone(VK Singh) who speaks against Dalits has no right to be a minister, PM must remove him,” Azad said.
The Congress is expected to raise the issue inside the Parliament as well.
Singh has been facing fire ever since he played down the murder of two Dalit children in Faridabad. “If someone throws stones at a dog, the government is not responsible,” he had said.
The renewed pressure from the Opposition over the issue has put the government in a spot as any further delay in its legislative agenda may mean that the Goods and Services Tax Bill will yet again got entangled in politics, a possibility that the government appears keen to avoid.
