Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday talked to his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif and extended best wishes for his open-heart surgery to be held in UK tomorrow.

PM Modi received a call from Sharif from the United Kingdom.

The MEA posted the following on Twitter: "PM Modi receives phone call from PM Nawaz Sharif just before Pak PM is wheeled in for surgery. Wishes him a speedy recovery."

On May 28 also, PM Modi had wished Sharif for the surgery.

The PM had tweeted then: "My best wishes to PM Nawaz Sharif sahab for his open heart surgery on Tuesday. And for his speedy recovery and good health."

Earlier, Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had said that doctors had advised Sharif to undergo an open-heart surgery, following which he would be staying in the hospital for a week.

"The PM will travel after one week, on doctor's permission," he had added, as per PTI.

On the other hand, Sharif's daughter, Maryam Nawaz had also confirmed on Twitter on May 27 that her father would undergo an open-heart surgery.

"Prayers are the most effective and potent medicines. Millions will pray for him so he will be fine," she had tweeted.

Maryam had then gone on to explain her father's medical condition, saying: "In 2011 Nawaz Sharif had a cardiac procedure called 'Atrial Fibrillation Ablation', during which certain complications occurred resulting in perforation of heart which was in turn treated by open heart surgery."

"After some recent symptoms a team of cardiologists and cardiac surgeons carried out some scans and tests, following which they decided to go for an open heart surgery," she had added.
