New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended his greetings to the people of the nation on the occasion of National Science Day and remembering the everlasting contribution of great physicist Sir CV Raman .
"Greetings to scientists and science lovers on National Science Day. May the spirit of research and innovation grow further in our country. We remember with immense pride the rich and everlasting contribution of Sir CV Raman to science. He is a great inspiration for young minds," Prime Minister Modi said on twitter.
National Science Day is celebrated all over the country February 28, every year to commemorate the invention of the `Raman Effect` in India by the Sir CV Raman in 1928.
Sir CV Raman was honoured with the Nobel Prize in Physics in the year 1930.The great physicist had worked from 1907 to 1933 at the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata, West Bengal in India during which he had researched on many topics of the Physics from which the Raman Effect (effect on scattering of light when passing through different materials) became his great success and discovery which has been marked in the Indian history.
The National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) in 1986 urged the government of India to designate February 28 as National Science Day in India.
From the year 2013, the "Raman Effect" has been designated as an International Historic Chemical Landmark by The American Chemical Society.The National Science Day is celebrated every year with immense passion at the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (also called GMRT) at Khodad which is a worldwide famous telescope getting operated at low radio frequencies by the NCRA (National Centre for Radio Astrophysics) established by the TIFR (Tata Institute of Fundamental Research).
