NIA to 'preserve' Pathankot terrorists' bodies, hand over photos to Pakistan

Pathankot: A media report claimed on Monday that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is preparing to hand over to Pakistan photographs of four terrorists who had attacked the Air Force base at Pathankot in Punjab last month.

The Hindu reported that the central agency will also preserve the bodies of the four terrorists for an “indefinite period”.

A senior official said the bodies will be preserved till they are identified.

For now, the bodies have been kept in deep freezers and are under “police protection”.

The NIA has already gone through the database of missing Indians and concluded that none of the four bodies are of Indians.

Following the development, NIA plans to give photographs of the four dead terrorists to Pakistan in order to establish their identity, the official said.

He added that Pakistan would have to cooperate with India in identifying the bodies under the UN Security Council resolution 1373 on counter-terrorism.
