Washington: A top Republican Senator has said the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US represents how opportunities between two countries are not only growing in number but in quality as well.

"As the oldest and largest democracies in the world, the US and India share relationship built on common values like individual liberty, political pluralism and the rule of law," said Senator John Cornyn, who is Co-Chair of the Senate Indian Caucus.

He sent a video message on the Facebook Page of the Indo-American Community of West Coast, which has been tasked with organising the community reception for the Prime Minister at San Jose on September 27.

Modi's visits, he said, "represents how our opportunities are not only growing in number but in quality as well. We are witnessing innovation like never before."

"Please join me in welcoming the Prime Minister to the US," Cornyn said in his video message.

Meanwhile preparations for the Modi's reception are in full swing in Silicon Valley.

A record number of over 1,200 volunteers have registered to volunteer and help the event at the SAP center in San Jose on September 27.

On Monday, the first batch of volunteers met to plan and discuss the tasks for community reception, said Kahnderao Kand, convener of the Indo American Community of West Coast.
"More meetings planned for next set of volunteers. We were overwhelmed by the enthusiasm," he said.
