New Delhi: According to the experts and Army veterans who have served at the Siachen , the world's highest battlefield, it is almost impossible for any human being to survive under such conditions even for 15 minutes.
Lance Naik Hanumanthappa of the 19 Madras Regiment proved all of them wrong by surviving the drastic conditions and coming out alive after six days.
Prior to their deployment at Siachen, soldiers had to undergo an acclimatisation camp where they are trained to survive the tough climatic conditions at the Siachen. But the acclimatisation camp also just prepares them to battle the extreme climate at 20,000 feet above sea level. But Hanumanthappa's case has left every expert answer less as this incident is something which has never been heard.
Thappa, along with nine others was buried 26 feet deep when a snow wall as big as one kilometer wide and 800 metres high collapsed over his post.
According to the experts, an air bubble, possibly created around him saved his life. But these are all speculations as the actual version will be know only through Thappa, who continues to remain critical but stable.
After days of dispair, Lance Naik Hanumanthappa's family in Betadur of Dharwad district in Karnataka, celebrated the news about their brave son. First thing what is wife did was to go to the nearest temple.
"I am very happy, I want to go and see him," said Hanumanthappa's wife.
However his father told he always knew that his son is alive.
"His name is Hanuman, after Lord Hanuman. I knew he will defy death," said Hanumanthappa's father.
On Tuesday, the rescue team also managed to dig out the body of remaining nine soldiers. All these soldiers were buried alive under the snow following an avalanche on Wednesday morning last week.
