New Delhi: Major Indian cities like Gurgaon, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad were choked due to heavy rains, which led to massive traffic jam on Friday.

The worst affected was Millennium City – Gurugram.

The Delhi-NCR region witnessed its worst nightmare ever. Thousands of commuters remained stuck on National Highway 8 due to flooding on the roads causing massive traffic jam, forcing authorities to shut down schools.

The problem started yesterday itself after heavy rains, led to waterlogging near Hero Honda Chowk from 4 PM as the Badshahpur drain overflowed.

The traffic nightmare in Gurugram was so worse that the commuters had to wait for 5-6 hours to cover a stretch of 1 km.

Not only this, the Gurgaon Police advised commuters from Delhi to avoid coming to city on Friday.

Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, was badly affected due to rains, which ultimately led to waterlogging in some stretches. Western Express in Andheri was severely hit.

Heavy rainfall in Karnataka led IT city Benagaluru come to a standstill. The situation was so worse that SDRF team had to use boats to sail through the streets. People were seen catching fish on the lanes as a lake overflowed following incessant rains.

Flood water also entered several homes in Bommanahalli area of Bengaluru.

Hyderabad too faced severe traffic jam in places like Mehdipatnam, Madhapur, Toli Chowki,, Begumpet and Secunderabad.

44 NDRF teams deployed in 12 flood-hit states

Thirteen of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are deployed in Assam, nine in Bihar and the remaining in Arunachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal to assist the state governments in rescue and relief work.
