Jat stir: Two-member Commission of Inquiry appointed

 Haryana Government on Friday named a two-member Commission of Inquiry, headed by former Jammu and Kashmir High Court Chief Justice S N Jha, to probe conspiracy behind violent incidents during Jat agitation in February that left 30 people dead and heavy damage to property.

The Commission has been asked to submit its report within six months from the date of its first hearing.

It will inquire into "the sequence of events leading to, and all facts and circumstances relating to, the occurrence of violence leading to loss of lives, damage to properties, both private and public including roads, canals, railway stations, police stations and illegal felling of trees and violation of human rights from February 18 to 23,2016 in Rohtak, Jhajjar, Sonepat, Jind, Hisar, Kaithal and Bhiwani," said an official release here.

The Commission would also find out if there was any "deep rooted" conspiracy to damage the social fabric of the society and any such matter as may be found relevant in the course of the inquiry.

The other member of the Commission is former IPS officer N C Padhi, who was Secretary Security, Government of India.

On March 22, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced in the Assembly that a Judicial Inquiry would be ordered to probe the recent incidents of arson and disturbances during the agitation for reservation.

He had then said judicial enquiry shall be got conducted to "completely unearth the entire conspiracy" behind the series of sad and unfortunate incidents which continued for 80 hours in the month of February.

The Commission shall also inquire into the complaints or allegations that may be made before the Commission by any individual or association in such form, as may be specified by the Commission.
