Beijing: In a significant development, China has for the first time acknowledged that the role of Pakistan and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror group in the deadly Mumbai terror attacks of November 2008.
Ten LeT terrorists had struck in India's financial capital Mumbai at multiple locations between November 26 and 29 in 2008. A total of 166 people were killed and hundreds were left injured in that attack.
Chinese state television CCTV9, in a documentary film telecast recently, talked about the role of LeT and its sponsors in Pakistan in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, news agency ANI reported.
The documentary was aired just days before the expiry of Beijing's decision to place on technical hold the listing of three known LeT/ Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) terrorists - Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki, Talha Saeed and Hafiz Abdul Rauf – on June 9, 2016.
Almost all major members of the international community were in favour of listing of these three terrorists by the Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the United Nations Security Council in September last year. However, acting at Pakistan's behest China had vetoed the decision then.
Later, China had blocked India's bid to get Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Maulana Masood Azhar listed as a terrorist by the United Nations, even though the JeM remains sanctioned by the UN Sanctions Committee.
That decision of China was slammed not just by India but by many other countries as well.
