If you criticise me, it's freedom of speech, if I do then it's intolerance: Arun Jaitley to Sitaram Yechury

New Delhi: Speaking on the Aadhar Bill in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday took a dig at Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Sitaram Yechury.

While speaking in the Upper House, Jaitley mocked at Yechury saying, “If you criticise me, it is your freedom of speech. If I criticise you it is my intolerance.”

In the recent months, the Opposition has been repeatedly attacking the government saying it is intolerant.

The Dadri lynching incident in Uttar Pradesh, return of Sahitya Akademi awards, Jawaharlal Nehru University, are some of the incidents which were raked up by the Opposition parties to try to label the present dispensation as intolerant.

Earlier, Jaitley had described the returning of Akademi awards as a “manufactured paper rebellion”. He wrote in a Facebook post, "Those returning awards are playing politics by other means. Follow their tweets and their stances on various social and political issues. You will find a lot of rabid anti-BJP elements in them".
