Guwahati: Assam Governor Padmanabha Acharya stoked controversy on Saturday when he said that Hindustan is for Hindus and Hindu migrants from different countries can stay here.
During a book launch event, the BJP leader said, “Hindustan is for Hindus. There is nothing wrong with that. Hindus from different countries can stay here.”
“They cannot be outsiders. There is nothing to be feared about that. But how to accommodate them is a big question and we should think about that,” Acharya was quoted as saying by media reports.
Acharya comments came against the backdrop of Bangaldeshi migrants, who migrate to the Indian states in large numbers to settle here.
He further added that India should not allow a single Bangladeshi to be included in the NRC list, claimed reports.
However, clarifying his stand, Acharya told ANI, "I didn't mean Hindustan is for Hindus only, persecuted Hindus anywhere have a right to seek shelter here."
