EC to review poll speeches of PM Narendra Modi

Election Commission will review Prime Minister Narendra Modi speeches on Thursday to see if anything has been said which violates the model code of conduct.

Patna: Election Commission will review Prime Minister Narendra Modi speeches on Thursday to see if anything has been said which violates the model code of conduct.

Additional Chief Electoral Officer (ACEO) R Lakshamanan said the model code conduct committee under the Munger district magistrate would look into the PM's speeches.

He was replying to questions whether Election Commission would probe words like 'shaitan' and 'Yaduvanshi' used by the prime minister during his speeches in Munger and other places today.

"It is a standard practise to review speeches of all political leaders to see if there is any violation of model code of conduct," Lakshamanan added.

Addressing an election rally at Munger during the day, the prime minister had said RJD chief Lalu Prasad cannot absolve himself of his controversial beef remarks by claiming that it was the "shaitan" (devil) on his tongue which made him say it.

"I want to know how the shaitan got the address (of Prasad) ... He recognises that it was the shaitan in a manner that is similar to people recognising their relatives."

Ridiculing Prasad's remarks that it was the 'devil' under whose influence he made the beef remarks, Modi said "So far we were fighting (political rivals) human beings. Now a shaitan has entered a human body which is after us."

The PM also blamed RJD chief for insulting "Yaduvanshis" by his utterances.

"What all did he (Prasad) eat? It (the remarks) insulted the Yaduvanshis ... Laluji these Yaduvanshis helped you to come to power. Was it not an insult of Yadavs and Bihar?" he said.

The PM made similar reference in his speeches at Begusarai and Samastipur too.
