EC should take suo-motu action against BJP: CPI(M)

CPI(M) on Wednesday demanded that Election Commission initiate suo-motu action against the BJP and asserted that "dal and divisive politics" will seal NDA's fate.

New Delhi: Slamming BJP's alleged "inflammatory" advertisement campaign ahead of final leg of Bihar polls, CPI(M) on Wednesday demanded that Election Commission initiate suo-motu action against the party and asserted that "dal and divisive politics" will seal NDA's fate.

Attacking BJP over the print advertisement, which targets Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asking him why he has been mum on "repeated insults" to cow made by his grand alliance partners, the Left party said people will not forget rising dal prices ahead of polling and that Amit Shah-led party's "divisive" politics has sealed its fate.

"Comrades from #Bihar say they woke up to an inflammatory and disgusting BJP ad. Sure signs of desperation in latest 'beef' push. @cpimspeak," CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury said in a series of tweets

"It's naive to think that people will forget dal, if you harp on beef and religion. Dal and divisive politics, for sure, sealed your fate.

"Serious enough breach by BJP for EC to initiate action suo-motu. Time for EC to become proactive, for prevention is better than cure," he said.

People in the state reportedly woke up to the print advertisement by BJP which shows a woman embracing cow and questioning Kumar why he has been keeping quiet even as his allies "repeatedly insulted" cow.

The advertisement also carries comments purportedly made by RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, senior party leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and Karnataka Chief Minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiagh favouring beef consumption.

Polling for the fifth and final round of the assembly election will be held across 57 constituencies tomorrow.

A total of 1,55,43,594 electors are eligible to vote to decide the fate of 827 candidates, including 58 women.
