The government aims to increase the enrolment rate of SC/ST students in private universities during the BR Ambedkar's birthday celebrations.

New Delhi: The government aims to increase the enrolment rate of SC/ST students in private universities during the BR Ambedkar's birthday celebrations.

"Admission of students belonging to SC/ST in private universities may be encouraged," a UGC communication to all vice-chancellors underlined.

In the communication, UGC has also suggested organising seminars on Preamble of the Constitution on November 26, to be celebrated as the Constitution Day.

"On this day, the preamble to the Constitution may be read in schools and colleges," it said.

The Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949.

The communication of the UGC followed the recommendations of a national committee chaired by the Prime Minister.

To increase awareness about the Constitution among citizens particularly children, the panel had recommended that November 26 be celebrated as 'Constitution Day' every year.
