New Delhi: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Alok Kumar Verma on Monday took charge as the new commissioner of Delhi Police.
Alok Kumar Verma succeeded BS Bassi. Here are few things to know about the new Delhi Police Commissioner:-
- He is a senior IPS officer from 1979-batch
- Verma is the IPS officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre
- He was serving as the Director General (DG) of Tihar jail
- Verma had joined as DG of Tihar on August 6, 2014 after serving as Special Commissioner of Police (Administration)
- He served Delhi Police in number of positions, including Deputy Commissioner of Police, South District, Joint Commissioner of the Crime Branch, Joint Commissioner of Police, New Delhi Range, Special CP (Intelligence) and Special CP, Vigilance
- He had served as the Inspector General of Police in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Director General of Police (DGP) of Puducherry
- Verma will be Delhi Police chief for 17 months until his retirement
