Considered a firebrand leader of the Congress party in Himachal Pradesh, Champa Thakur was one of the first to kickstart her campaign in the state ahead of the assembly elections. Contesting the polls from Mandi constituency, she has attempted to highlight the work done by the Congress in the past five years.

Daughter of Kaul Singh Thakur - the current health minister in Himachal Pradesh, Champa Thakur has especially highlighted the work done by her father. The seven-time MLA though has not taken part in the campaigning for his daughter.

The 43-year-old made a mark for herself when she won the Zila Parishad polls and became chairperson. It is little surprise then that after withholding the name of nominees for Mandi in its second list, Congress eventually named her as candidate.

She will take on Anil Sharma - son of Sukh Ram. Anil had held Mandi before moving to the BJP with his father.
