New Delhi: You must have heard people saying 'if you pluck one grey hair, two will grow back in its place'.

However, an expert has debunked this theory, which means that plucking or pulling out those stray hairs won't cause more grow back in their place.

Dr Robert Dorin, DO, ACOFP, and hair restoration surgeon, told goodhousekeeping.com that the idea is a myth, adding that that doesn't give you license to do it.

He says that each time you pull out a hair (on your head or in your eyebrows), you're causing a little bit of damage. And you can actually change the way the hair grows out of the root, meaning a new hair could grow in frizzier.

In worst scenario, if you really keep it up, you're creating weaker hair, and a new strand won't grow back, he added.

Grey hair is hair without pigment. As we grow older, the melanocytes gradually become less active, resulting in less pigment production, the colour fades, and thus grey hair occurs.

While grey hair happens to all of us at some point of time, scientists don’t know exactly why some people go grey early, but they said that genes play a large role.
