New Delhi: A novel sensor that can detect heart damage within ten minutes has been designed by Biologist in delhi and physicist in Chandigarh through joint research.

According to The Telegraph report, the sensor can detect within 10 minutes a protein linked to heart attacks could also confirm heart muscle damage than standard tests.

It has been developed by scientists with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the sensor looks for a protein called cardiac troponin- I. It is intended to serve as a substitute for tests routinely used by hospitals to diagnose a heart attack that typically take about two hours to yield troponin values, as reported.

The scientists have warned that the sensor which is based on the optical behaviour of a carbonbased material called graphene quantum dot has only been tested in the laboratory.

The sensor is yet to be validated through blood samples of patients.
