Delhi University students have launched a cleanliness initiative on the campus and taken to social media to encourage their peers to pick up brooms.
New Delhi: Delhi University students have launched a cleanliness initiative on the campus and taken to social media to encourage their peers to pick up brooms.
"We have have started an initiative that aims at promoting cleanliness. We plan to tell students that cleaning campus is "cool" and hence, we are going to different streets and are uploading pictures and videos of the team in action.
"We are using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for the purpose with the hashtags #cleanupdu, cleanup and cleaningiscool," said Samiul Hoque Chowdhury, a Hindu College student.
Arnav Vats, an economics student who is part of the campaign said, "We contributed to get gloves, masks, and garbage bags for volunteers. We hope to create awareness about waste management, and initiate a sustainable change on our campus as well as encourage the people of Delhi to manage their waste better and clean the city together".
The week-long cleaning drive started yesterday with 250 volunteers turning up with brooms and dustbins to clean the North Campus.
