Delhi: Delhi Metro may not be in a position to accommodate the passenger overload owing to the odd-even formula proposed by the Delhi government.
As per a report in India Today, over 10 lakh passengers are expected to shift to Delhi Metro from January 1.
In such a scenario, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation can only temporarily run nearly 20-25 spare trains parked at the maintenance depots.
Delhi Metro can run nearly 200 extra trips with these sets of trains, as per sources quoted in the report.
The report said that the Delhi Metro was in the process of procuring 258 new coaches. However, they will be made available by end of 2016.
Delhi government has reportedly urged DMRC to increase frequency of trains to accommodate more passengers.
Meanwhile, women drivers and CNG-certified vehicles are likely to be given exemption from odd-even scheme coming into force from January 1 in the national capital.
During the 15-day trial, motorcycles and emergency vehicles including ambulance, PCR, fire tenders, will also not come under the ambit of road-rationing experiment, as per PTI.
Kejriwal will announce the blue print of the odd-even scheme tomorrow which aims to prevent rising pollution in the city.
